Please read our Terms below for details. PLEASE NOTE: We take our photos in natural light outdoors and as a result there are sometimes reflections or shadows or glare shown in the blades. In person none of these exist; we will say so in the description if it may be otherwise. Made in Massachusetts by Russell at their legendary Green River Works, it dates to the years shortly after the Civil War but remains as useful and impressive today as it did when first forged. It was made with a fully-forged carbon steel blade/bolster/tang construction, superbly crafted on par with the best ever made. Its bone handles are beautifully grained and fully intact, free of cracks, pinned in brass over the tapered tang using an old 19th Century 5-pin pattern. The entire piece has a great patina without being rusted or pitted. It's a very early piece by this maker, as evidenced by its markings as well as its beautiful and and unique handle construction. Even more than its beauty and condition, the most remarkable thing about the piece, by far, is its performance in the kitchen. It is a VERY remarkable knife, indeed, capable of peeling and paring, of course, but also long enough for light-duty chores like waferizing onions, meats and anything else you can put in its way. Measuring 8" in length with a deft 4.25" blade that is RAZOR SHARP, it's like a miniature chef knife. You know how difficult it is to come by fine, smaller chef knives in carbon steel, since most knowing chefs won't part with theirs until they're dead of the knife is worn out. Do your kitchen arsenal a favor and don't pass on this gem. Also will make an exceptional gift for any hard-to-shop-for chef on your list!
