Please read our Terms below for details. PLEASE NOTE: We take our photos in natural light outdoors and as a result there are sometimes reflections or shadows or glare shown in the blades. In person none of these exist; we will say so in the description if it may be otherwise. This is an absolutely stunning piece of the finest quality offered here in top condition.Made in Sheffield, England by the maker S. Kitchin, one of that city's oldest and most distinguished. It bears the triangular British military marking on its blade where it is also dated 1955, all in the same style as employed by the British through much of WWII and throughout the Korean War. Its scabbard is also of the very finest quality molded leather with a riveted rawhide throat and has a date of 1945 on it. It was quite common for WWII pieces to be mated with those of later manufacture for the Korean War, not only in Britain but other countries as well, including the USA.
The only blemish I can find on this piece is one missing rivet on the throat of its scabbard, which you can clearly see in the photos. It remains rock solid and for a piece like this (we can only imagine what kind of usage it saw), that is quite rare, indeed.
A machete like this is heavy enough to use as a meat cleaver or lamb splitter and for use in the jungle it outweighs even the better-quality South American varieties while also being considerably shorter. Special Forces types and other elites would have been top users. This cleaver was hand-forged from the finest carbon cutlery steel and is razor sharp in a way that will delight any user. It's a heavy piece for a machete, weighing in at an impressive 24 ounces (without the scabbard), measuring 20" long with a 14.75" blade.
Handles are very tightly compressed leather over a full and tapered tang using the toughest copper rivets with thick studs in their centers. Condition of the knife and scabbard are stunning, as the photos clearly show. Whether you want it for use or for a collection you will not find better.
An amazing piece that would be the centerpiece of most collections as well as an instant heirloom.
