The blade is around 12 1/2. The very end of the cleaver may have been damaged and reshaped at some point. Either that or this was made by a blacksmith using available metal. I have found some marks on this but no manufacturing marks.
On the blade near the handle is 91-13 on one side and a faded 450 over a 1 on the other. The spine of the blade is marked with KK. The handle has circular marks cut around it and a nice knob on the end. Safety features I suppose so the cleaver doesn't fly out of your hands.
It has a convenient hole in the end of the blade for hanging. This cleaver is in the carcass splitter class.
It's got a nice long handle you could hold with 2 hands to get a good swing going. A fine old tool, not generally in use in the USA anymore. Berkeley blacksmith and tool collector's estate.
He was featured on a Strange Inheritance TV episode. Like to learn more about him and see his awesome collection at his house, just search for Robert.
If you look at the site The Truth About Knives, you'll see some film clips. Most pictures will be with the cutting edge down so you can keep track of the sides of the piece. Pictures of polls or sockets or other things will be different. Many tools are heavy so I will be listing in flat rate boxes. In the past, I've managed to get over 10 hatchets in a large flat rate box and still be below the 70 pounds limit.
