HUGE Vintage Foster Bros 154 Chef/Butcher's Buffalo Skinner/Lamb Splitter Knife

Please read our Terms below for details. This is a FANTASTIC knife found here in the largest and rarest size the company ever made offered here in used but still excellent condition. If you're someone who processes game, livestock or fish into food, this knife should get your pulse racing. Known alternately as a buffalo skinner and a lamb-splitter, it's the knife you want to reach for when you only want to reach once. I assure you, whatever it is that you may need to divide in half with it, will be permanently divided in half on the first try.

It's a style and size, though, that was widely carried by buffalo hunters in the years immediately following the Civil War, and though I don't think it dates back that far, it's certainly of that lineage. It's also remarkable for its condition. Most pieces like this have chipped edges and numerous hammer marks on the top of the blade's spine, deforming it considerably. It is even more beautiful than the digital photos make it look, even though it looks pretty good already. Its large curved carbon steel blade was hand-forged with a tapered tang, triple-brass riveted over SOLID rosewood handles of the highest quality. It's stamped quite clearly with the maker's arrow logo along with, SOLID STEEL, FOSTER BROS. Even if the knife wasn't marked at all, its identity would be unmistakable as a Foster Brothers knife because no one made one so finely forged. The entire piece is beautifully weathered and it just begs to be held. Though it has some considerable collector value, it would be a shame not to use it, if you're able. Carbon steel blades of this vintage can hold a razor's edge like no other. It has a RAZOR sharp edge now and has been professionally edged for this sale.

Hunters are also eager users of knives like this, useful for jointing fallen game and clearing brush, building a blind, splitting kindling, etc. I have one and use mine as a cleaver for meats and also for sugar cane, which my wife cooks with from time to time. Its rosewood handles are as warm and comfortable in the hand as they are easy on the eye.

Comes with 14" blade (20" overall length) that is 3-1/8" wide at its widest, and runs 3/16" thick along most of its length. Handle has no cracks, chips, looseness or damage to wood at all. If you're simply collecting cutlery items, you're in luck--this is a rare opportunity to add some authenticity and quality--not to mention SIZE--to your collection.

For user and collector alike an heirloom quality piece that you'll be proud to pass down to your heirs.
