Japanese Deba or filleting Knife. Japanese filleting knives are seriously chunky, check out how thick the spine is. These knives are also used for chicken and similar jobs. Top quality hand made blade. Simple elegant lines without adornment for serious use.Check out the makers mark and the lamination line between the softer steel of the cheek and spine versus the hard carbon steel of the edge. Also the natural buffalo horn ferrule which is a mark of the best blades. Some very minor cosmetic marks with some minor work required on the edge.
Also there is the tiniest amount of damage to the point. I can just see it in the photo but then I know what I'm looking at. It won't take very long to bring this back into service. With knives there will always be some patina but regularly the older knives display the greater skill and elegance of craft.More modern knives quality knives will have excellent steel but not the finer details of a hand made knife. However many of the chisels I sell are from estate sales and barn finds and by the time I get them its often the case that they haven't been used in years. So please examine the photos carefully to avoid disappointment. I do my best to take photos that reveal the quality and condition of the tools I sell. With special close ups of maker marks, chips, significant pits and the like. I take the time and care to individually wrap each chisel in newspaper and/or bubble wrap and then another layer of bubble wrap and/or cardboard. I want your items to arrive safely. BUT you must request an invoice before paying. So in future I will only be posting items with tracking. Check out my latest stuff on You Tube just search for "Chestnut_nag's Tools From Japan" or "Mad Scientist Prospecting". I get a box or two a month of tools from Japan or Europe (mostly Japan at the moment). I'm doing this mostly as something to keep myself busy and to fund my hobby/addiction (tools). That means that sometimes I won't be able to answer your questions as quickly as you or I would like.
It may also mean that I might take a little longer to post your items. When life is crazy and "interesting" I can't answer questions and I can't get to the post office.
I also can't let you know because when things are bad I'm too busy dealing with Doctors and stuff. So if it takes a while for your item to be posted please understand its because things are not going well and I'm busy looking after my son and myself.
