This superb vintage chef's knife was made in Southbridge, Massachusettes by Dexter and is designated with Dexter model #48912, dating back to the 1950's-60's. It has been used but as you can see in the photos it still mostly shines like stainless steel as it did when new from the factory. Make no mistake, though, it is 100% fine, hand-forged American carbon cutlery steel found here with a large and wide carbon steel blade, just a tad more refined and beautiful, to my eye, than a typical Dexter carbon knife of the same size and vintage. I'm often asked for carbon steel chef knives like this, of top quality--well here it is!
Knives like this are useful not only for chopping, dicing and mincing at the speed of light, but equally adept at slicing foods thinner than thin. This exceptional knife was recently given a sharp professional edge for the purposes of this sale and you'll have no trouble finding a myriad of uses for it--guaranteed to thrill even the most jaded user. In short, it is SUPERB, and we fully guarantee your satisfaction with it. Return it for any reason, no questions asked. We also urge the utmost in caution in using such a knife or a careless jokester may find himself in the E.Like all Dexters of this vintage, it was made with a blade magnificently forged from the highest-quality carbon steel, and its handle was beautifully crafted from genuine old-growth rosenwood--dense and strong--selected for its tightness of grain. The blade on this one SINGS when thumped with a finger or run over a sharpening steel.
It was the product of skilled men and women in the United States, for whom pride and craftsmanship were the everyday norm, rather than the exception. This is the ONE knife you'll want to take with you on a desert island (there are many chefs who use this style of knife for EVERY job in the kitchen). At this size (12" blade, 17.5" overall), the knife handles incredibly well and will serve equally well for virtually any chef, amateur or professional. As you can see in the photos, condition is excellent with no damage to blade or handles. An excellent opportunity to add a thoroughbred to your stable of fine cutlery. Our store's inventory is searchable using the search field or may be browsed by clicking on categories, with each option found on the left side of the store's homepage.
