And NONE of those can produce the kind of quality you'll find in this knife. This knife predates all that and was the product of skilled men and women in the United States for whom pride and craftsmanship were the everyday norm, rather than the exception. It's made with a thinner, but VERY sturdy blade that allows it to be used for every task in the kitchen--FAST, for working with your most delicate herbs, garlic or anything else that comes its way all at warp speed. Like all Dexters of this vintage, it was made with a blade magnificently forged from the highest-quality carbon steel, and its handle was beautifully crafted from the finest old-growth rosewood--dark, dense and tight--selected for its tightness of grain, and fitted onto the fully forged integral blade/bolster/tang. The quality of its steel is readily apparent every time you steel it or thump it with a finger and you hear it ring like a bell.
